Daily coal sale to power sector halves
Kolkata: Coal IndiaNSE 6.19 %’s daily supplies to the power sector, its biggest consumer, has halved this week compared to daily sales during the beginning of April, prompting unions to suggest drastic cuts in output to reduce losses so that the company has enough money to pay salaries.
Total supplies to the sector have slumped almost 70% this month as against April 2019.
Total sales are down 26%, production has declined 11% and stocks increased 60% to touch 76 million tonnes in April.
