Covid-19 impact: Indian carriers continue to see subdued demand in August
NEW DELHI: Indian airlines operated a third of their scheduled domestic flights in August and ferried more passengers than previous months, but continued to witness muted demand compared to pre-covid days largely because of the rising number of infections across India.
Indian carriers flew 2.83 million passengers in August, down from 11.79 million in the year-ago period, showed monthly data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Wednesday.
The passenger load factor (PLF) of major scheduled commercial airlines stood at 58-76%. In August 2019, the PLF for major carriers stood at 78-90%. PLF, or load factor, measures the capacity utilization of transport services, including airlines.
