Covid-19: Construction of highways too suffers a knock
The surge in Covid-19 infections and the restrictions imposed by state governments to curb it have started affecting construction of highways in urban centres.
Officials said about 15% of work has been impacted so far, though greenfield ones remain unaffected.
“If we were to look at the country-wide levels, about 10-15% work has been impacted, as labour has begun to move,” a government official told ET.
“We are seeing impacts in urban sites, work around Delhi is impacted, for instance,” the official said, adding that local labour had begun to move though migrants were staying put. Supply of material is also impacted to some extent, market watchers said.
