Corona: IGIA may use fewer terminals for passenger flights

NEW DELHI: The only Indian airport with three passengers terminals — Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) — is likely to see fewer terminals being used whenever schedule passenger flights resume in India.
Since travel will pick up gradually from when the lockdown is lifted, beginning with domestic, Delhi is going to be nowhere close to the passenger volumes it saw in pre-corona times for quite some time and moth-balling a terminal could be a cost-saving option.
As air traffic is severely hit globally, some other major international hubs are also consolidating operations to fewer terminals. Incidentally, one of IGIA’s three runways is also not being used for flight movement as it has been used to park grounded aircraft.
