Congress demands white paper on reasons for proposing power tariff hike in Telangana

HYDERABAD: The Congress has demanded that chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao-led TRS government come out with a white paper on the reasons for allowing the power distribution companies to seek a hike in power tariff from the electricity regulatory commission.
The TRS government should also come clean on the losses suffered by northern and southern power distribution companies (Discoms) in the state.
Telangana Congress spokesperson Boreddy Ayodhya Reddy on Sunday said the burden on the people due to proposed power tariff hike is going to be nearly Rs 7,000 crore of which nearly Rs 5,000 crore would be collected from middle and poorer sections of consumers.
“This much of the hike was never done even in the combined state. It is the state government’s neglect that has pushed the power distribution companies (discoms) into Rs 40,000 crore losses. Why doesn’t the TRS government explain to the people the reasons for these losses,” asked Ayodhya Reddy?
