Competition from foreign retailers to make us more efficient: MK Surana, HPCL

Once BS-VI fuel is introduced, the companies will need to ensure that there is a recovery of the capex which they are incurring on setting up these facilities to upgrade and opex cost to run the refineries. Otherwise, it will not be good for the health of the company, says MK Surana, CMD, HPCL. Excerpts from an interview with ETNOW.

How are the trends on the GRM front? We understand there is some revival on GRMs in the region? Just talk us through that.

Yes, to some extent you are right. Diesel cracks have improved. MS cracks had gone very low at some point of time and there a time came when petrol prices were lesser than the crude price in international market and has come to around $7. Diesel cracks have come above $16.
