Coming soon, PPE shop at airports

New Delhi: Shops at airports in India will now a have a new retail avatar as part of the ‘new normal’ in the times of coronavirus – a dedicated outlet to sell Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to travellers.

Such ‘PPE Shops’ could open in all major airports via Airports Authority of India (AAI) contracts with private parties, ET has learnt. The process has already been started for half-a-dozen airports like Amritsar, Pune, Patna, Coimbatore and Agartala airports with AAI inviting tenders for the same over Monday and Tuesday.

The shops will be located inside the check-in area, near the departure area or on the city-side of the airport as per the availability of space. These shops will sell PPE equipment of different categories of face masks, gloves, disposable goggles, coverall or gowns and sanitizers to travellers with the goods having specifications as per the guidelines of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
