Coal India gives hard-up power producers a much-needed breather on coal use

KOLKATA: The power plants which had signed sale agreements with distribution companies but were unable to get enough coal from long-term contract auctions can now use the fuel meant for other plants of the same group, Coal India NSE -1.39 % said in a recent notice.
Industry executives said the plants which had participated in these auctions were relatively new and efficient but were stressed in the absence of secure fuel supply.
