Coal dust, fly ash major blues for J’suguda

Jharsuguda district known for its rich deposits of coal and hordes of industries also has the dubious distinction of being the most polluted district. Coal dust and fly ash are ubiquitous in Jharsuguda, Brajrajnagar, Belpahar town and in rural area of the district too. A layer of coal dust and dust particles envelope every object that meets the eye.

The air is so thick with fine particles of coal dust that all the colonies and roads are coated black. Coal from the bunkers and mines and coal dust and ash from power plants make their homes filthy. Fly ash contains a number of heavy metals. “Nothing is done to prevent fly ash. Neither does anyone follow NGT’s or the court’s orders in Jharsuguda.
