CNG rates up for fifth time this month in Delhi, PNG costlier too

NEW DELHI: Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) early on Thursday morning raised CNG (compressed natural gas) and PNG (piped natural gas) prices in the national capital and neighbouring townships by nearly 4% and more than 10%, respectively, because of a two-fold rise in the price of domestic natural gas from April 1.
CNG price was raised in Delhi by Rs 2.50 per kg to Rs 71.61 and PNG rate was raised by Rs 4.25 per unit (standard cubic meters) to Rs 45.86. The hikes are marginally higher in the neighbouring townships due to the incremental impact of higher VAT rates charged in respective states.
This is the the fifth increase in CNG prices this month, making the fuel costlier by almost Rs 15. The sharp increase has set off a clamour for hike in fares from auto, bus, taxi and medium goods carriers.
