Chingrighata underpass work in limbo as KMC, RVNL spar over land price payment
Kolkata: The much-awaited pedestrian underpass at Chingrighata has hit a roadblock. Construction of the subway would have begun immediately after the two piers of the New Garia-Airport Metro were erected at the site. Now that the time has come, a dispute has emerged between RVNL and KMC over the payment of an extra Rs 4 crore as land price.
Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), the implementing agency of the New Garia-Airport corridor, will be completing the pillar (318) in the middle of Chingrighata crossing in the next 10 days. Thereafter, it will seek a two-month road block for construction of pier 319. Once the two pillars are built, RVNL is agreement-bound to start construction of the underpass at Chingrighata.
