Chennai Metro Rail phase 2: Tunnelling to begin in T Nagar in Oct

CHENNAI: Chennai Metro Rail Ltd has announced that tunnelling under Panagal Park in T Nagar will begin in October. The tunnel boring machine to be deployed in T Nagar underwent a factory acceptance test on Saturday.

In a release, CMRL said the factory acceptance test was completed on the premises of TBM maker Herrenknecht in Tiruvallur district in the presence of officials of CMRL and the general consultant. This is the second TBM to complete the acceptance test for corridor-4, from Lighthouse to Poonamallee bypass covering 26.1km. The corridor has a 10km underground section from Lighthouse to the ramp at Power House Kodambakkam.

“The TBM will now be dismantled in parts, packed and transported to Panagal Park.
