Chennai Metro Rail Limited to modify Coimbatore metro DPR, to go for low capacity metro

CHENNAI: Coimbatore may get a three-car low-capacity metro rail service instead of an elevated metro line or light rail transit (LRT) system as there are no Indian firms to make LRT trains, and importing them can be expensive.

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), which prepared the detailed project report (DPR) for the LRT system, will modify the report accordingly.

On Monday state finance minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, in his budget speech, said that a metro rail project will be implemented along Avinashi Road and Sathyamangalam Road at an estimated cost of 9,000 crore.
