Chennai: Flights to Africa, US set to get cheaper
CHENNAI: Flying to destinations in the US, Africa and the far East is going to be cheaper and hassle free from Chennai as the Union government has allowed people from India to travel via transit airports abroad like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, London and others.
The new policy announced on Friday will help several travellers waiting to fly to the US and Europe and also to destinations like Africa and the far East to where not many flights are available. Till now, those travelling to India were allowed to fly via international hubs but those flying out of the country were allowed to fly only by direct flights as only point-to-point tickets were allowed to be issued. Desperate travellers even tried to circumvent the rule by staying a few days in Dubai before boarding onward flights to cities in Africa or the US.
The relaxation of the rule is likely to help travellers from Chennai as there are not many direct flights to foreign destinations. Many used to travel via Delhi or Mumbai.
Passengers save on waiting time at Delhi or Mumbai airports, can travel shortest route and need to spend less as fares are low for transit flight.
