Centre reimposes windfall tax on crude oil, at Rs 6,400 per tonne; scraps duty on diesel

The Centre reimposed the windfall tax on domestically produced crude oil on Tuesday, revising it to Rs 6,400 per tonne while also scrapping the export duty on diesel. The revised rates come into effect from Wednesday, April 19, 2023.

The windfall tax on petrol and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) continues to be zero.

In its last fortnightly revision, the Ministry of Finance had scrapped the windfall tax on locally produced oil from Rs 3,500 per tonne to zero. It had also halved the duty on diesel export to 50 paise per litre.
