Calcutta HC summons senior cop over report delay in 2013 coal case

KOLKATA: Calcutta high court on Wednesday pulled up the state police for its inordinate delay in submitting an action taken report on a petition filed against illegal coal mining way back in 2013.

“Were you sleeping all this while? Why weren’t steps taken? Why didn’t you draw the court’s attention?” the division bench of acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj said to IGP Burdwan Range Bharat Lal Meena, who had been asked to appear in person.

Meena submitted that the case did not come under his jurisdiction. The bench then directed the commissioner of the Asansol-Durgapur Police to appear on November 11.
