Bombay HC dismisses PIL to challenge the disinvestment of BPCL

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has dismissed the Public Interest Litigations (PILs) on Thursday that had challenged the government’s move to disinvest Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL NSE 4.78 %) and upheld the decision of the cabinet committee of economic affairs (CCEA) to grant in-principle approval for the disinvestment.

The division bench of Justice SC Gupte and Justice Madhav Jamdar, while dismissing the four PILs, that had challenged the government’s decision of disinvestment of country’s second-largest public sector oil and gas company observed that the bench had found no ‘merit’ in the petitions.

“The present governing dispensation is well within its powers to take such decision,” said the court in its 26-page order.
