Bengaluru: Student dies, NHAI booked for not building service road

BENGALURU: Police registered a criminal negligence case against officials in charge of Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, National Highways Authority of India, for not providing a service road at Koraluru gate, near Hoskote, where a 21-year-old student died in an accident on Tuesday.
Chaithanyaa, a resident of Koraluru village, was returning home from college at 4.30pm when a concrete-mixing truck hit her electric scooter and dragged it for a few metres. She died instantly, prompting villagers to stage a protest against NHAI authorities.
Police said nearly 100 people gathered at the spot and called off the protest only after NHAI officials promised to build a service road. The truck was seized but the driver is missing.
