Bengaluru: Bescom’s subsidy push to boost solar power units
BENGALURU: Bescom wants to lure more apartments to set up rooftop solar units. It has launched a campaign, offering 20%-40% of the project cost as subsidy to individual houses, group housing communities and resident welfare associations to install solar rooftop photovoltaic (SRTPV) units.
The campaign is part of Soura Gruha Yojane Phase 2 or grid-connected solar rooftop project. The utility wants to instal 5,900MW of solar rooftop capacity in the city.
The subsidy is open to all those who apply between March 15 and March 25 for setting up 1kW-10kW SRTPV units on their rooftops. Bescom said applications could close earlier if a capacity fulfilment of 60MW for individual apartments and 30MW for group housing societies and RWAs is reached. Consumers can sell excess power to Bescom for 25 years.
