Bengaluru airport’s main access road to be shut for 2 years

BENGALURU: The busy main access road to the passenger terminal of the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will be closed for traffic for two years from Monday (June 10). The airport operator, Bangalore International Airport (BIAL), has taken steps to divert the traffic to the six-lane south access road (SAR), while the 1.4-km main access road will be widened from four lanes to 10 lanes as part of the ongoing infrastructure development.

The new six-lane (three each) SAR runs parallel to the main access road. The closure is unlikely to disrupt the movement of traffic, but commuters may have to travel at least a kilometre more to reach the terminal. The airport, the third-busiest in the country, caters to about 90,000 passengers daily.
