BBMP fires contractor in new twist to pothole-filling fiasco
In a new twist to the row over the filling up of potholes, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Tuesday terminated the contract for running the hot mix asphalt plant at Kannur.
The contractor allegedly failed to supply the required quantity of hot mix asphalt to fill up the potholes, and the BBMP has now invited fresh tenders to maintain the unit.
The civic body had contracted one M S Venkatesh for maintaining the plant. Aiming to fill up all the potholes in Bengaluru, the BBMP had set up the plant at Kannur at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore. The unit is capable of producing 50 truckloads of hot mix asphalt at a rate of 120 tonnes per hour.
