Ash utilisation gets major boost at OPGC

In what could be termed as a historical milestone, the Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited (OPGC) on Tuesday started dispatching ash from Fly Ash Silo to Star Cement Plant, Assam, which shall be used for making PPC (Portland Pazzolana Cement).

About 4,000MT fly ash was dispatched from OPGC’s Ib Thermal PowerStation with the use of railway rake. The PPC is a form of blendedcement which is cheap, requires less curing and thus has high demandin market. The OPGC is one amongst very few power generators having state of arttechnology to dispose ash through railway rake. The OPGC has three Dry Fly Ash Silos with capacity of 2,300 MT each. With presentlandmark event, OPGC gains a significant potential to disposearound 90,000 MT of ash per month which can be further increased in months to come, said a release of the company.
