As temperature rises, power demand in Maharashtra soars to a new high

MUMBAI: With rising summer heat and all cities and districts unlocking to nearly pre-Covid levels, the peak power demand across the state has touched a record 28,000MW, said MSEDCL officials on Monday.

The state power utility has distributed 24,400MW lately across the state and the rest is supplied by power companies such as BEST, Tata Power and Adani in Mumbai. The last peak demand was around 27,000MW on March 15, and this has gone up by a 1,000MW.

“We anticipate that the state power utility firm will soon have to distribute over 25,000MW of power. While this will be a huge burden on us, we appeal to consumers from residential, commercial, industry and other categories to conserve electricity between 6am and 10am and 6pm and 10pm daily.
