APERC resolves 25-yr-old power tussle in state

Hyderabad: Resolving a 25-year-old tussle between Hinduja National Power Coporation Limited (HNPCL) at Visakhapatnam and AP discoms, the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has now passed a conciliatory order keeping in view the interests of power consumers in the state.
The Hinduja power company too displayed a give-and-take attitude probably in view of Centre’s decision not to allow any more thermal power plants in the country.
According to the APERC order, which is in line with Supreme Court directions in February this year, the term of the power purchase agreement (PPA) has been fixed at 25 years from the date of commercial operation of the project as against the original proposal of 30 years.
