Andhra Pradesh goes for power sector reforms to gain on FRBM limits

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh has decided on reforms in the power sector as directed by the Centre by fixing meters for agriculture connections and implement direct benefit transfer (DBT) to farmers in the place of free power to gain on Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) margins.

Even as Andhra emerges among the first states to implement the power sector reforms, the move attracted criticism from the Opposition parties and the civil society organisations who found fault with the YSR Congress government for going back on the poll promises.
