Amrit Bharat Station scheme: Indian Railways’ long term vision to transform railway stations into vibrant city centers
The Ministry of Railways has initiated the ‘Amrit Bharat Station scheme’ inspired by the successful redevelopment of Rani Kamlapati Station, Gandhinagar Capital Station, and Sir M. Visveswaraya Terminal Station. This scheme aims to enhance 1318 identified railway stations by improving facilities such as access, waiting areas, toilets, Wi-Fi, and more.
Under this scheme, stations will undergo continuous development through phased master plans focusing on amenities, connectivity, sustainability, and integration with city infrastructure. The emphasis is on creating inclusive spaces for all passengers, including those with disabilities, and promoting local products through initiatives like ‘One Station One Product’.
