In ancient times, Odisha‘s residents sailed to destinations like Bali, Java, Sumatra, and Sri Lanka for trade along the Mahanadi riverbanks. The annual ‘Bali Jatra’ fair, held on Kartik Purnima, commemorates this seafaring legacy.
