American Airlines’ loss widens in the first quarter but revenue rises

American Airlines expects to have a better second quarter after losing $1.64 billion in the first. The loss is more than what it was a year ago, but the airline is banking upon the passengers’ resuming travel in the spring.

Before the market’s opening, in early trading, the airline’s shares gained more than 10%. Omicron ran riot, and air travel was reduced due to the Covid variant and increasing cases. Passengers resumed traveling during March, and the airline said that they made a profit in that month, barring certain items.
