MUMBAI: The scorching domestic airfares of May and early June have made way for cheaper fares, what with the southwest monsoon winds sweeping across the Indian heartland, heralding the start of the lean air travel season.
Though India’s daily domestic passenger traffic hasn’t dropped drastically and is still over 4 lakh, a change in the demand-supply equation is apparent as domestic fares have cooled considerably.
The most notorious of them all, the 24-hour advance purchase airfare to fly from Delhi to Mumbai, has also taken a mighty fall. In the last week of May and early June, the cheapest fare available for travel from Delhi to Mumbai for travel the next day began around Rs 19,000 for a one-way, non-stop flight.
