Accidents prompt truck ban on Taratala-Budge Budge flyover Sampriti

The urban development department has banned movement of heavy goods vehicles, including trucks, on Sampriti flyover that connects Budge Budge and Taratala in the south, from Friday.

The decision has come within days of chief minister Mamata Banerjee expressing her concern over the accidents on the flyover in west Kolkata.

Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA), which maintains the flyover that was inaugurated in 2019, came up with a notice on Friday banning plying of all heavy goods vehicles with immediate effect.

Movement of heavy vehicles has been banned on most of the flyovers across Kolkata whose condition is being checked by a state-government appointed committee of bridge and flyover experts.
