6 power, coal PSUs granted Rs 175-crore special pay to staffers: CAG
Kolkata: Six companies under power and coal ministries paid their employees Rs 175 crore as perks, allowances and ex-gratia beyond government’s guidelines, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) said in a report.
The amount was paid to employees of NLC India, NTPC, NTPC-Sail Power Company Ltd (NSPCL), Power Finance CorporationNSE -1.09 %, Rural Electrification CorporationNSE -0.62 % and THDC India.
NLC India paid its employees a total Rs 26.83 crore, which included two special golden jubilee increments from January 2006. In 2009, it distributed two-gram gold coins to employees completing 30 years of service in the company.
In January 2016, it introduced long service award in the form of five-year National Savings Certificate for employees, on completion of 15 years of service.
