30,000 lose power as fierce winds rip through Northern Nevada — NV Energy issues update
Powerful winds swept through northern Nevada early Wednesday, cutting out electricity for tens of thousands of residents. As per the NV Energy, “28,258 customers are without power as of 7:45 a.m. on Nov. 5,” leaving much of Washoe County in darkness.
The severe weather initiated the National Weather Service to publish a high wind caution for “the Greater Reno-Carson-Minden areas and Mono County, California, from 1 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday.” Meteorologists forecast “southwest winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 65 mph.” Regions susceptible to strong gusts, particularly along U.S. 395, “may see gusts up to 70 to 80 mph with ridgetop gusts up to 110 mph.”
