3 held for ‘gross negligence’ over Chamoli mass electrocution

DEHRADUN: Three persons — a supervisor of the joint venture firm operating the sewage treatment plant (STP) in Chamoli district, an assistant engineer from Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan (UJS) and a lineman from Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) — were arrested on Saturday for “gross negligence” which led to mass electrocution of 16 people recently.

Supervisor Pawan Chamola, assistant engineer Hardev Lal Arya and lineman Mahendra Singh were charged with “culpable homicide not amounting to murder” under IPC Section 304.

On Saturday, SP (Chamoli), Pramendra Dobhal, said, “After the first electrocution death of STP operator Ganesh Lal on July 19, lineman Mahendra Singh was informed by his colleague Sain Singh.
