Wind power generation breaches last year milestone, sets new records
Chennai: The wind power generation in Tamil Nadu breached last year’s milestone of 12,015 million units as TNPDCL absorbed 12,121.73 million units of electricity generated by windmills as of Saturday.
The Renewable Energy Producers Association (REPA) says Tamil Nadu will set a new record in wind energy generation this year, as the wind forecast for the next few days has been positive. “Usually, the wind season lasts until the third week of September. Extended wind seasons have occurred in the past, but not with this intensity,” said REPA’s chief advisor K Venkatachalam, pointing out that TNPDCL absorbed 104.8 and 102.8 million units of wind power on Saturday and Friday, respectively. This year, wind power generation crossed the 100 million unit mark for the 36th time on Saturday, unlike previous years.
