Chairman and managing director of Air India, Ashwani Lohani, on Friday exuded confidence that the debt-laden national carrier, with time, can emerge from the legacy issues that pose many challenges.
“If you have the will, anything is possible,” he told a conclave organised by the Indian School of Business (ISB), even while admitting that the biggest challenge that the national carrier faces is handling the huge backlog of losses. The accumulated losses of Air India are in excess of Rs. 48,000 crore.
Noting that Air India has “got a lot of legacy issues”, he said the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines was something that never got completed and in its wake, created more trouble.
