Unauthorised internet and cable tv lines on electricity poles pose safety risks

Hyderabad: Raising serious concerns about unauthorised internet and cable TV lines on electricity poles across Hyderabad, officials of the TGSPDCL on Friday said there are nearly 20 lakh power poles in the city, but permission has been granted for only 1.73 lakh poles.

Noting that the current situation poses a threat to public safety and damage to the power network, officials stressed that licensed operators are required to follow safety norms, including laying cables at the proper height, colour-marking approved poles, and avoiding the installation of additional equipment. However, most operators failed to comply.
