Uddhav to launch first girder in Mumbai’s Shewari today

The work on the first span of package-1 of Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), which will be the longest sea bridge in the country after its completion, will get underway on Wednesday.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who is also the chairman of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), will launch the erection of the first girder of this project at the Shewri end of the MTHL at 10 am on Wednesday. The girder weighs 1000 metric tonnes and lifting capacity of launching girder is 1400 metric tonnes.

The project involves construction of a 22 km six-lane bridge with three lanes on either side of the bridge. An approximate 16.5 km of the bridge will be in sea while 5.5 kms is on land. In other words, it will be at least 16.5 km long creek bridge with 5.5km via ducts on land on either side.
