Twin takeoff: Noida Airport set to give Delhi-NCR a second engine of growth
Delhi-NCR, already home to nearly 3.5 crore people, has expanded rapidly over the past two decades, southward towards Gurgaon and eastward towards Noida, making it the world’s second-largest urban agglomeration after Tokyo, said The Times of India report. According to UN projections, it will surpass Tokyo in the next four years.
That shift may happen sooner. Starting this December, commercial flights will begin operating from the upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar, developed through a public-private partnership between the Uttar Pradesh government and Swiss firm Zurich AG. The new airport is expected to supercharge growth in the eastern belt, much like Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport did for the south.
