Train pilots in Southern Railway— high on fatigue, low on morale
Next time you go on a long train journey or prepare to stretch on the berth ahead of a night travel, spare a thought for the man or woman piloting your train. It may have been a long time since they had had some rest.
According to data from a recent RTI reply, the Southern Railway is short of 616 loco pilots, with Chennai division alone grappling with 461 vacancies. It means that of the sanctioned 2,047 loco pilot posts, 22.5% are vacant. Trichy and Salem divisions have 75 and 86 vacancies, respectively.
