TNPDCL works on fixing exposed UG power cables as residents seek rectification

Chennai: One fatal electrocution in Kannagi Nagar has exposed a citywide safety risk, and Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (TNPDCL) is scrambling to fix hundreds of exposed underground cables before more lives are endangered.

A day after the death of 30-year-old sanitary worker Varalakshmi, TNPDCL is on a war footing to secure all underground cables that were dangerously exposed, posing risks to pedestrians and motorists. At least 150 contract workers are in the field to identify and bury the exposed cables under the supervision of senior discom officials, including the distribution director, chief engineers, and superintendent engineers.
