TNPDCL employee unions oppose draft Electricity Act
Chennai: Various employee unions of the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (TNPDCL) have opposed the draft amendments to the Electricity Act, 2003, stating that it would pave the way for privatization of power distribution companies and favour corporates in the electricity sector.
TNEB employees federation general secretary A Sekkizhar said that consumers will not get free, subsidised power if the power sector is privatized. “The amendments propose that the state-owned discoms can forgo 49% of their distribution to private players to get 1 lakh crore,” he said.
