Tatkal ticket booking at railway counters to now need OTP verification

Passengers booking Tatkal tickets at railway reservation counters will now need to verify an OTP sent to their mobile phones. The Railway Ministry has introduced the process to stop misuse of the last-minute booking facility and to ensure fair access to high-demand tickets, a PTI report stated. The OTP-based system began on November 17 on a pilot basis. It first applied to a few trains and later scaled up to 52. The ministry said the same system will be introduced for all remaining trains in the next few days.
