TP Renewable Microgrid (TPRMG), a subsidiary of Tata Power, has gained recognition from the World Economic Forum (WEF) for its Renewable Microgrid initiative, as highlighted in the WEF’s report unveiled during the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28).
The report titled “Using a People-Positive Approach to Accelerate the Scale-up of Clean Power: A C-Suite Guide for Community Engagement,” used TPRMG’s Renewable Microgrid as a case study to emphasize the critical role of a people-positive approach in expediting the adoption of clean power, underscoring its broader social, economic, and environmental implications. It stresses the importance of industry leaders to engage with local communities for mutual advantage.
TPRMG has commissioned renewable microgrids in 200 villages in northwest India, impacting approximately 300,000 lives in its effort to provide clean electricity to rural India. These microgrids have contributed to saving over 3 million liters of diesel and reducing more than 8,000 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, remarked, “We are privileged to set up Renewable Microgrids for providing clean energy in rural India. We are committed to advancing India’s renewable energy initiatives through innovative microenterprise solutions in rural areas.”
The case study featured in the WEF’s white paper stated that TP Renewable Microgrid is not only supplying clean energy but also establishing an ecosystem for socio-economic development in rural India. This initiative aligns with India’s broader goal of transitioning to reliable, sustainable, and community-focused energy solutions, exemplifying how the power sector can provide dependable and clean power to communities traditionally reliant on fossil-based power.
