Tariff & error: Bengaluru’s power utility cuts surcharge hike proposal by a third to 58 paise
Bengaluru: Weeks after seeking approval to levy a surcharge of Rs 1.65 per kWh on large consumers for the 2025-26 financial year, Bescom made a sudden U-turn and softened its stance. The utility revised its proposal, now seeking only Rs 0.58 per kWh — a reduction of Rs 1.07 per kWh — leaving several industrial organisations and consumers flummoxed.
In the first week of Oct, Bescom filed a petition before the Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC), seeking permission to levy an additional surcharge of Rs 1.65 per kWh on open-access consumers.
