State power utility to add 735MW in thermal-solar mix

Kolkata: The state power generation utility is set to add 660 MW of thermal power by mid-next year with the addition of a super-critical unit at Bakreswar thermal power plant and 75 MW of solar power thereafter to take its generation capacity to 5,550 MW from 4,815 MW at present.

An official of West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd (WBPDCL) said the utility is set to generate 31.8 billion units in 2022-23 with generation already crossing 30 billion units till date.

“The plant load factor of WBPDCL, an indicator of the efficiency of a generating station, has improved over last year and is much better than the PLF of government-run units in other states.
