NEW DELHI: Be prepared for high spot airfares these summer holidays. Almost all airlines have reduced flights, even as the demand remains strong. A concerned Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has called a meeting with airlines on the issue on Tuesday.
The supply side crisis has been worsening over time, for a variety of reasons. More than half of Jet’s fleet of 119 planes are grounded and the integrity of its highly truncated schedule is in doubt; SpiceJet has grounded 12 Boeing 737 Max; IndiGo has canceled 30 flights daily till early April due to pilot shortage; GoAir too has also grounded many of its planes for technical reasons and Air India is facing crew shortage as its international flights to the west have started taking a longer route after Pakistan closed airspace.
