SpiceJet steps up its winter flight plan

SpiceJet has set an aggressive expansion plan for the coming winter schedule starting October, traditionally the busiest period for air travel in India. The budget airline is looking to add 25 aircraft to its fleet and to nearly triple the number of daily flights to 280 from about 100 currently. Fuelled primarily through short-term aircraft leasing from European airlines, the move will drastically reduce SpiceJet’s operating costs, Debojo Maharshi, chief business officer, told ET.
