Southern Railway announces Pongal special trains across Tamil Nadu, neighbouring states
To manage the heavy passenger rush during the Pongal festival, Southern Railway announced the operation of several special trains across Tamil Nadu and neighbouring States. The announcement was made through an official release on Jan 3, 2026. The special train services will operate between Jan 8 and Jan 21, 2026, to ensure smooth travel for passengers heading home for the festival.
The special trains will connect major destinations such as Nagercoil, Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Rameswaram, Coimbatore, Podanur, Mangaluru, Erode and Sengottai with terminals including Tambaram, Dr MGR Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore.
