SC issues fresh notices to Anil Ambani, Reliance ADA Group on a PIL by EAS Sarma alleging banking, corporate fraud

The Supreme Court on January 23, 2026 sought status reports from the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate on their probe into alleged bank frauds involving the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) and promoter Anil Ambani.

A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant directed fresh notices to be served on the ADAG and Mr Ambani and asked the Registrar of the Bombay High Court to ensure that they were served on the parties. The Bench noted in its order that neither party has entered an appearance through their counsel in court “for reasons best known to them”. The court emphasised that fresh notices are being issued as a “last opportunity” and in the “interests of justice”.

The hearing was based on a petition (Annexure) filed by a former IAS officer EAS Sarma, represented by advocate Prashant Bhushan, seeking a court-monitored and extensive investigation with emphasis on the role of bank officials.
