Rly OK’s new fence to stop cattle crashes
In view of the recurring cattle-hit incidents involving trains, the Indian Railways has approved a new design for boundary walls adjacent the rail tracks. To begin with, a total length of 1000 kilometre will be “installed” in the next six months. The boundary walls will come up in sections of its network where maximum cases of cattle being run over by trains are recorded. Cattle runovers can cause serious damage to trains, derailment and delay them.
Announcing the major enhancement of rail infrastructure, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday said the national transporter is working seriously on the issue of building the boundary walls.
